How it Works

The first time that a target machine is backed up, RemoteVault transmits the entire data set in a compressed and encrypted format from the client to the central system at Storage Elements over a TCP/IP connection. AES encryption; up to 256 is applied to the backup data. TheRemoteVault Backup process eliminates redundant files while backing up only the changed blocks of file data. This means that if 4K of a 100K file has changed since the last backup, RemoteVault only transmits the 4K changed block, whereas traditional enterprise applications would transmit the entire file. The savings in bandwidth of "Delta Blocking" is what makes Remote Block Storage feasible today.
